  • A Family Circle can mix Android and iPhone devices freely.
  • The phone must have an active mobile-data or Wi-Fi connection for location and alerts to be shared.
  • Tablets are supported for the Parent App only; location sharing from a tablet without GPS and mobile data is not supported.

2. Required permissions and settings

The Family Member App asks for the following during setup. Each one is explained on screen, and the member can change them later in the phone's settings.

  • Location — "Always" / "Allow all the time": needed to share location and to detect safe-zone arrivals when the app is in the background.
  • Precise location: needed for safe zones to work reliably; approximate location is not sufficient.
  • Notifications: needed to receive check-in requests and to confirm when an alert was sent.
  • Battery optimisation exemption (Android): some manufacturers aggressively stop background apps; excluding mspy.live from battery optimisation keeps sharing active. We show device-specific steps for common brands during setup.
  • Motion and fitness (optional): helps the app reduce battery use by updating less often when the phone is still.

The Parent App needs only notification permission, plus location permission if the parent also wants to share their own location with the circle.

3. What affects accuracy and alerts

  • Signal: indoors, underground, inside large buildings or in dense neighbourhoods, GPS accuracy can drop to tens or hundreds of metres. Safe zones should be drawn generously (we suggest at least 150 metres) to avoid false arrivals and departures.
  • Connectivity: if the phone has no data connection, positions are sent when it reconnects. The Parent App shows the time of the last update.
  • Battery and power saving: very low battery, battery-saver modes, "do not disturb" and forced app closure can delay or stop location updates and notifications. mspy.live warns the circle when a phone is about to run out of charge or goes offline.
  • Operating-system updates: a major OS update can reset permissions; the Family Member App will ask the member to grant them again and the Parent App will show "Permissions needed".
  • Manufacturer customisations: some Android skins limit background activity more than stock Android; the setup guide covers the settings we know about.

4. What is not supported

  • Phones running an operating-system version older than those listed in section 1.
  • Rooted or jailbroken phones, custom ROMs, and devices without Google Play services (Android) — the apps may install but are not tested or supported there.
  • Feature phones, smartwatches, GPS trackers and other devices that cannot run the Family Member App.
  • Emulators, virtual devices and devices shared between several people.
  • Any configuration that hides the app or prevents the member from seeing the sharing indicator — this is against our Terms of Use, not merely unsupported.

5. Check before you pay

  • Install the Family Member App on each phone during the free trial and complete the permissions checklist shown in the app.
  • Confirm the phone appears on the family map in the Parent App and that a test check-in and a test safe-zone alert arrive.
  • If something does not work, contact [SUPPORT EMAIL] before the trial ends — most issues are fixed by a permission or battery setting.

If a supported device still cannot be made to work with our support team's help, our Refund Policy explains how to request a refund of your first payment.

6. Changes to supported devices

As Android and iOS evolve, we may raise the minimum supported versions or stop supporting particular devices. We will update this page and give at least 30 days' notice in the app before a version your family is using stops being supported.

7. Contact

Not sure whether your phones are supported? Write to [SUPPORT EMAIL] with the phone model and operating-system version and we will tell you.

Minimum operating-system versions are shown as placeholders and should be filled in by the engineering team before publication.
